Flip the Switch elevates the power of partnerships

Flip the switch, the story of Barefoot College and Hogan Lovells Citizenship partnership to empower women and girls around the world, premiered in London in Sept. 2018. Its first honour, being named a finalist at the TvE Global Sustainability Awards, set the stage for continued success and widespread distribution.

The film is designed to facilitate engagement that brings together leaders from organizations interested in empowering women and girls. It has been a catalyst for many organizations and corporate leaders coming together to discuss collaborative partnerships that are critical to meeting the UN Sustainability Development goals. These engaging events, in London, at the San Francisco International Film Festival, and with Impact NY have fostered connections and fueled ongoing interest around shared goals and objectives.

Flip the Switch chronicles the work of Barefoot College in several on different continents around the world. It is unique in many ways, including:

• The film captures the challenges and success of working with women that make less than $1.25 a day in the most remote regions on Earth.
• This three year partnership with Hogan Lovells directly targets many of the UN SDG goals, but at the centre, it models Goal #17: Partnerships for the Goals.
• It helps communicate our belief that such partnerships increase and benefit the businesses and organizations involved as much as the beneficiaries of the work. Great partnerships can benefit all involved and help everyone reach their goals.
• The film elevates solutions to empowering women and girls in every region of the world.

Since its London premiere, Flip the Switch has been shown at a dozen film festivals and winning numerous honors including the Women’s Empowerment Award at the Apulia Webfest in Puglia, Italy in May. It was chosen as one of the top 11 climate films, and shown via livestream at the UN SDG Action Campaign in Bonn, Germany in early May.
